Tokina AF16-50mm f/2.8 PRO DX

Tokina AF16-50mm f/2.8 PRO DX lens

A képstabilizátor segít csökkenteni a kéz remegéséből adódó elmosódásokat. A stabilizátor hatása elsősorban nagy gyújtótávolságnál és gyenge megvilágításnál érezhető. A képstabilizátor 1-3 fényértéknyi előnyt biztosít a nem stabilizált objektívekhez képest.

Fast Lens for Most Situations

2008. június 03.

I sold my Canon 17-40 f/4 and Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and got this lens. It's definitely better than the Sigma and is almost up there with the Canon when it comes to colors and sharpness. I got sick of carrying 2 lenses for different occasions. It's a bit wider than the usual "normal zooms" and is 2.8 all the way which is quite nice. Everyone keeps saying that the CA is large, I don't much care about that. You can correct CA. CA is only perceptible on sunny days when you would stop to f/5.6-f/11 anyways and the CA is small there. It's nice and heavy and I love how it feels. Plus it has a 77mm filter thread (unlike Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 which has the less common 67mm).

Overall - I am very happy with it.

Very Nice

2010. február 27.

I've had this lens for about 8 months now. I have to say I really like it. Its been on my camera not all the time, but I would say about 75% of the time. It has a nice feel to it.

As far as performance, well, its pretty good. My copy is pretty sharp at f/2.8 in the center at both 16 and 50. The edges not so much though. They do better at f/4, and at f/5.6 it all comes together nicely. I have to say I use f/2.8 the most though. That's why I bought it. I wanted some low light performance, and for the price I have been quite pleased.

I will also buy the Tokina 11-16. This lens has proven itself, and restored my faith in third party lenses. There are alternative lenses for less money than the Canon line. I would recomend this to anyone who doesn't want to spend a thousand dollars on the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8.

Bottom line. If you are looking to save a little money, this is where you want to look.

Very good quality lens

2010. április 26.

This is my main lens on the Canon 7D.

Previously used a Sigma 24-70 on an XT.

Very sharp. In practical use, the focus is nearly as fast as Canon USM with only a tiny amount of noise. However, in super dim conditions, and I mean super dim, the lens can't focus. In those conditions, I switch to the Canon 50 1.4, which the 7D can focus with in practically dark conditions.

Great built quality. And while it doesn't necessarily show up in your files, the tactile quality of the lens makes it a joy to use. Somewhat heavy, but balances nicely on the 7D. There's some barrel distortion at 16mm though.

The sharpness seems very consistent through the zoom and aperture range, unlike the Sigma 24-70, which was somewhat soft at 24mm.

I also have the Tokina 11-16, which is great too, with distortion very well controlled at 16mm.

Fast lens at F 2.8 and performs well in poor lights conditions

2010. május 12.

Most of the times I use a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras as an all-round lens (mounted on an EOS 450 first, then EOS 7), and I was looking for a somewhat wider angle, but not too wide. I love Tokina 11-16MM F/2.8 ATX 116 Lens for Canon EOS AF Digital - Tokina ATX116PRODXC, so I bought this one and so far I've been super happy about it. It's a fast lens at F 2.8 and performs well in poor lights conditions, solid, but not too heavy. Only keep in mind that, just like Canon's own EF-S lenses, it will not fit a full-sensor camera, like the EOS 5 or EOS 1.
Other people out there may be instead looking for a replacement for the 17-55 lens sold together many Canon's cameras. Other good alternatives on the market would be Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5 SLD Aspherical DC Optical Stabilized (OS) Lens with Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for Canon Digital SLR Cameras and Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras. From what I've heard Sigma's lens is very good value for money, but it doesn't offers a fixed focal length. Canon's EF-S 17-55 got great reviews and has image stabilization too (that's a plus if you hand-hold a lot, like I do), but it's the most expensive among the three. I went with the Tokina mostly because I only wanted to fill the gap between my 11-16 and 24-105, the EF-S 17-55 is pretty expensive and I was positively impressed by Tokina in the past. Depending on your budget you may go with Sigma or Canon instead.

Great lens

2008. augusztus 12.

This is another great lens in the Tokina pro line, and a great match to their 50-135 zoom. Fine image quality for sure; I only wish it were a purely internal focusing and zooming lens like the longer one. Good glass is always worth the $; in Tokina's case, it's also reasonably priced for its intended purpose.

great lens

2007. szeptember 14.

This is a great lens. Build is like a tank. Auto focus is fast and a little noisy, but it's focused from the camera so it's always a little noisy. No big deal for me. Has some CA and color fringing sometimes, but you really won't see it unless you blow the picture to 100%. Only con I see is the high price, but it was worth it for me.

Great value - excellent quality lens

2010. július 08.

Worked perfectly out of the box. Very sharp, good contrast, fast focus, sligt CA that is easily corrected in PS. Only visible in high contrast areas and only at 100% magnification. Colors may be slightly on the cool side. Compared to the Nikon 17-55mm 2.8 at double the price you get same sharpness, smaller size and less weight. Tokina's Pro series are built very well and have good optical qualities. Nice damping of zoom ring and nice feature for manual/auto focus. This is my second Tokina lens and my experience with the 11-16mm 2.8 motivated me for the 16-50mm 2.8. I use the lens on a D300 and a D200 for portraits and weddings. NO focusing problems as I have seen reported on other reviews.
I am a pro photographer and I recommend this lens.

Band Focus, Bad Vignetting, Bad construction, Bad lens.

2009. szeptember 11.

Compared to both the Tamaron and the Sigma, this lens is horrible! Images at f/5.6 were softer than my kit 18-50mm at f/5.6. Vignetting at anything but f/8 and smaller is unacceptable. Do some research and find that there are more people than just me with this problem. Do not trust this lens!

I chucked this lens (no one would buy it after trying it on their camera) and purchased the Nikon. Much better.
