APS-C sized imageLenses that create APS-C sized image are designed for digital only. They cannot be used on cameras that have image sensor larger than the APS-C format. These lenses are not suitable for film cameras either. No Ultrasonic AFLenses with ultrasonic focusing mechanism tend to be quiter and faster than traditionally focusing lenses. No Low Dispersion lens element is usedLow Dispersion lens elements help to reduce chromatic aberration. Not stabilizedImage stabilization helps to reduce blur caused by hand shake, especially at high focal length or in low light situations. Image stabilization can give 1 to 3 stop advantage over none stabilized lens, based on the reciprocal rule. Metal mountCheaper lenses are usually equipped with plastic mount, while more expensive, professional lenses have metal mount. In general, metal mounts are more durable, and a good thing to have when lenses are changed a lot. When a camera is used mainly with one lens, the material of the lens mount is not that important. No Internal FocusingInternally focusing lenses don't change their size while setting focus. The front lens is rotatingThe fixed front lens is not rotating during zoom and/or focusing. This allows the photographer to use petal shaped lens hood. Fixed front lenses also make the use of polarization filters a lot easier. No drop-in filter supportDrop-in filters are used in those lenses where either the front lens is too large, or the field of view doesn't permit the use of traditional filters at the front of the lens. Usually bright tele and ultra-wide angle lenses support this filter type. |

Compact-Lightweight zoom lens has a maximum diameter of 62mm, overall length of 67.5mm and weight of only 250gr and filter size of 58mm. Compact dimensions offers superb handling and mobility. The use of aspherical lenses provides correction for various aberrations throughout the entire zoom range and produce high level of optical performance. We took digital characteristics into consideration when designing the lens power layout and created the most suitable lens that makes high quality images a reality throughout the entire zoom range. We used the most appropriate coating for digital products to cut down flare and ghost caused by digital SLR cameras and to produce the best color balance. It can be used with the supplied lens hood to block out extraneous light. 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC zoom lens has a minimum focusing distance of 25cm at all focal lengths and is capable of macro photography with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.5. The focus ring provides easy operation in manual mode. A distance scale on the focus ring is an easy to use and convenient addition.

I have only had the Sigma 18-50mm f3.5-5.6 DC Lens For Canon Digital, for
1 day.
Pros, sharper at the edge's than the Canon kit lens.
Center sharpness slightly lower then canon kit lens.
AF is almost instant and quiet, almost USM.
Cheaper than the canon.
Better build and includes the Hood
Cons No IS image stabaliser.
I can live without that as I only wanted it for the wide end.
At 18mm to 24mm setting lens never focuses on infinity, on AF
No probs as just switch to MF.
Mount really stiff when mounting on & off camera body.
Read you can strip the AF Gears if you mount hood or filters with
Af engaged. Not a problem as select MF.
MF is a bit free with no resistance.
Zoom ring no Probs.
Overall not a bad lens if you can accept the shortfallings.
Better than the Canon Kit lens as optically the Edge's are
a lot sharper, but some barrel distortion at 18mm and better at 24mm
I will live with it, until I can afford a Canon wide Prime lens.
Zooms cannot compete with prime lenses.

Excellent lens - great for manual focus as well as AF. Used it mostly for landscapes and building on 18mm - fab pictures. Recommended.
