No Ultrasonic AFLenses with ultrasonic focusing mechanism tend to be quiter and faster than traditionally focusing lenses. One or more Low Dispersion lens element is usedLow Dispersion lens elements help to reduce chromatic aberration. Not stabilizedImage stabilization helps to reduce blur caused by hand shake, especially at high focal length or in low light situations. Image stabilization can give 1 to 3 stop advantage over none stabilized lens, based on the reciprocal rule. Metal mountCheaper lenses are usually equipped with plastic mount, while more expensive, professional lenses have metal mount. In general, metal mounts are more durable, and a good thing to have when lenses are changed a lot. When a camera is used mainly with one lens, the material of the lens mount is not that important. Internal FocusingInternally focusing lenses don't change their size while setting focus. The front lens is fixedThe fixed front lens is not rotating during zoom and/or focusing. This allows the photographer to use petal shaped lens hood. Fixed front lenses also make the use of polarization filters a lot easier. Weather SealedWeather sealed lenses are protected from dust and water. While they are not water proof, these lenses can be used in rain and other humid environments. Some sealings only provide protection against dust or water, not both. Sealing is only available when the lens is used on a similarly weather sealed camera body. Supports drop-in filtersDrop-in filters are used in those lenses where either the front lens is too large, or the field of view doesn't permit the use of traditional filters at the front of the lens. Usually bright tele and ultra-wide angle lenses support this filter type. |

The ultimate in super telephoto lens performance. Half the size of its 600mm 35mm equivalent, this Ed glass lens is easy to carry and use at a moment's notice, indoors or in the field. Focus response is quick and precise, and can be limited to close or far focusing ranges.

I spend a lot of time photographing birds. They don't cooperate. You need a lot of lens and a lot of light to get a decent shot. This lens is simply terrific at both. The colors are excellent, the pictures are crisp across the entire image and there is no chromatic aberration anywhere.
The four thirds system provides very quick auto focus, crisp and responsive manual focus and relatively light weight. I say "relatively" because this is a big lens. You'll need a tripod or monopod to use it in all but the brightest conditions.
The lens is amazingly sturdy in the field. It was undamaged by a fall that cracked two of my ribs. It works consistently and reliably in very hot (90 degrees plus) and extremely cold (-45 F) conditions. I've carried it outdoors all day at temperatures below zero and never had a problem.
Highly recommended.

I take a lot of high school soccer photos. Light is bad and the action fast. I think this lens is perfect. It is heavy and powerful. It gets the job done. There is almost no distortion and the it puts me on the field with action. It is not easy to use, a tripod is necessary, although if you have good upper body strength a monopod works. Nothing is like it.

I photographed the NCAA Lacrosse semifinals this weekend and had rented this lens to use with a borrowed 1.4x converter.
I own the 35-100mm lens and think that is the standard that all oly glass should be measured to.
I have used the 90-250mm f2.8 lens and was not impressed.
However, this lens is simply amazing. If I had the cash today I would buy this lens tomorrow. It is that good.
Autofocus was spot on. Much faster than the 90-250mm.
For giggles, while on the sidelines of the stadium I was able to photograph a worker in the lights above the stadium.
